Tuesday - the hummingbird

Over the past several days there have been a number things that  i have received that have hummingbirds on it....to name a few...this blog site (tony didn't notice until we noticed the hummingbirds popping up), pajamas, a card, and a sticker with one of my meals....all from different sources.

So I mentioned this to the nurse, Emma, who was on duty several days ago. Well, Emma is back on duty tonight and she came in to tell me she did some research on hummingbirds and found an article  on Hummingbird Symbolism....

"The hummingbird symbolises many different concepts. Because of its speed, the hummingbird is known as a messenger and stopper of time.  It is a symbol of love, joy, and beauty. The hummingbird is also able to fly backwards, teaching us that we can look back on our past. But this bird also teaches  that we must not dwell on our past, we need to move forward. When the hummingbird hovers over flowers while drinking nectar, we learn that we should savour each moment and appreciate the things we love.  They teach us courage. Having the courage to refrain from creating new trauma by communicating  from non-violent  towards ourselves and others is an important part of healing. Recovering lost parts of ourselves enables us to become healthily independent. By observing the hummingbird, we see they are seemingly tireless. Always actively seeking the sweetest nectar. It reminds us to forever seek out the good in life and the beauty in each day.  Theis quality reminds us to be persistent in the pursuit of our dreams and adopt the tenacity of the hummingbird in our lives."

The nurse said, "LT, somehow I think this  is you...". Perhaps.....

A nice day of relaxing. Still no phone but had some nice chats with girlfriends and with my beautiful husband who is sitting here with me tonight.

Each day is a blessing in itself. Thank you for the continued support.

Love,
The new hospital florist manager

  5. Hi Laurice,

I love the hummingbird article and I agree with nurse Emma, it's you! Always looking for the best in others and being positive and nurturing, that's why we love you! I'll be sending out positive energy for good news on Wednesday. Take care of yourself and try not to do a complete reorg to the place. :-). Once a 'type A' always a 'type A'! Give Tony a big hug for me.

    Love you,
    Sharon

  6. Good morning! I believe it is close to 7:30 am Wedesday morning there while here on the east coast of the US it is 4:30 pm Tuesday. As tradition stands, the time mved ahead 1 hr Sunday morning giving us more evening daylight time and more darkness in the morning hours. Those of us who prefer the morning daylight lose out on this change. Enough of my rambling. Well today is the day you have been either anxiously waiting for or hoping would be delayed because of the unknown. Well my friend, the power of your family and friends love can only bring you good news today. You are such a strong, tenancious woman who takes a challenge head on. This is one of those challenges like the hummingbird where your courage and strength will prevail. The pictures of you show how well you are healing. The kids have grown so much since we saw you all last year. Tony is still as handsome as ever with just a bit less hair! Sorry Tony...Smile LT for GOOD NEWS awaits you today...Machelle and Craig

  7. Top of the morn Laurice and very pleased to see your spirit so full of creativity, imagination and that special zest for life all around you. Lovely words each and every day and we all look forward to reading your first book if you have not already published one or more. The team back at base camp are holding up well and all you need to do is keep doing more of the same by engendering the true spirt of recovery. On to domestic matters how are the Long Macs courtesy of the ward? Welcome to the world of green tea perhaps? Keep engendering that wonderful spirit of recovery and all the best from the Team

  8. dear Laurice,
Every morning, afternoon and evening I await to hear from you or Tony, I and Dad too have enjoyed hearing from you and knowing that you are coping with laughter and humor. I am completely taken by your write up about hummingbirds, because my Mom told me that after she dies, she would come back to see me as a hummingbird. And at her memorial day and at the service, I did indeed see a hummingbird, in fact throughout the week end in CA, I saw the most beautiful hummingbirds. I see hummingbirds in my backyard and I know Mom is looking out for me as well as she is looking out for you too. As you well remember, she is always seeking out the good in life and the beauty in each day, just like you.

We are so elated about the outcome of your tests, and that you will be going home soon. Please take it easy for awhile and give your body a chance to heal. Do enjoy every day, as life is a real gift.

    Tutu and Dad
